I know what you did last Sunday

Award-winning stand-up (runner-up, BBC and FHM competitions) and topical writer (Private Eye, Mock the Week) James Sherwood turns to loftier matters.

‘Fantastic’ (TimeOut)
‘Piercing’ (Evening Standard)
‘Sharp, precise, and ingenious’ (Chortle)

James Sherwood has a religious family. He’s even got a religious job. So why hasn’t he got religion? This BBC award-winning comedian’s first solo Fringe show asks: ‘Should we worship God? And if we don’t, will He be upset?’

Despite Sherwood’s background (his father and grandfather were both parish priests) and his work as a singer in London’s top professional church choirs, none of that religion seems to have rubbed off on him.

In
I know what you did last Sunday Sherwood claims that God doesn’t want to be worshipped. Drawing on an impressive record of church attendance, and a Religious Studies A-level, he gives his reasons for being a lapsed Anglican.

Sherwood made his name in topical comedy. He has written for
Private Eye, The Now Show (Radio 4), Mock the Week (BBC2), The Unofficial Election (Radio 4), and The Milk Run (Radio 1). His stand-up set (‘Savage satire’ Sunday Times; ‘piercing’ Evening Standard) has featured in The Smith Lectures (Radio 2).

After his set at a 2005 Fringe showcase, Sherwood was invited to the
Vancouver Comedy Fest, where he was the only UK act to appear. And 2004’s Andrew O’Neill and James Sherwood, Apparently was a critical hit (**** Three Weeks).

Sherwood was runner-up in two of 2004’s national new act competitions: the BBC New Comedy Awards, and the FHM Holsten Pils stand-up competition.
